A Frenchman, who reckons Fat Freddy's Drop is the greatest band in the world, has just discovered they may also be the nicest.
Back in November Yannix Dennis won tickets to the band's gig at Waihi beach last night.
But there was one problem he was in France.
“Yeah we are the opposite of home. You put a finger on France and a finger on here in Waihi and opposites. It's strange,” says Carine Guivarc, Mr Yannix’s girlfriend.
When the band discovered their competition winners were from France they set up a campaign to help get them over here.
The band put their 'Live at the Roundhouse' album up for download, in exchange for donations, which went to the Yannix Fund.
Yesterday Mr Dennis and Ms Guivarch hopped on a plane in France, landed in Auckland, then hired a van and drove to Waihi, arriving at 3pm.
Mr Dennis says it is all a bit odd because he does not know English so does not know what his favourite band is singing about.
Despite this, every time Fat Freddy's has played in France, he has gone.
And their New Zealand experience is not over yet; the band has invited the French fans to join them for the rest of their summer tour.
