A man has died after being attacked by a shark at what is being called one of the world's most dangerous beaches.

Photographs from the scene show beach-goers and lifeguards helping a 25-year-old man to shore after the attack at Port St John’s on South Africa's East Coast.

The victim, who had been bitten repeatedly, was pulled from the sea by a lifeguard.

The lifeguard used a surfboard to protect himself from the danger of attack, and to stretcher the victim from the water.

This is the sixth fatal shark attack at the beach in six years.
