Father charged over quad bike crash

Father charged over quad bike crash

The father of a six-year-old girl badly hurt in a late night quad bike crash in Hawke's Bay is facing multiple charges over the incident.

Ashlee Shorrock suffered serious injuries when the quad bike, driven by her father and carrying her and three other adults went off the road and down a bank at Waimarama on January 2.

Daniel McGregor, 28, is facing four charges of driving with excess breath alcohol causing injury, one of reckless driving, one of cultivating cannabis, one of possessing cannabis and one of possessing utensils, police say.

The Waimarama man will appear in Hastings District Court on February 19.

Ashlee was thrown from the bike in the crash that took place shortly before midnight.

She suffered a fractured skull and other injuries to her face, neck, spine and back.

She was flown to Hawke's Bay Hospital before being transferred to Starship Hospital in Auckland in a critical condition. She has since been moved to the Wilson Rehabilitation Centre.

McGregor badly broke his leg in the crash and the three others on the bike were also injured.

Police blasted the "stupidity" of the adults at the time of the crash and said it was lucky no one died.
