Power to around 16,500 customers in the Horowhenua was cut today after a fault at the Mangahao power station.
The outage hit residents and businesses in Levin, Foxton, Shannon and other communities at 10.45am.
National
network operator Transpower said it had fixed the fault early in the
afternoon and local power distributor Electra was in the process of
reconnecting customers.
A Transpower spokeswoman said the cause of the fault was not yet known but it was at the substation at Mangahao.
The
outage is the second to hit Transpower this week after power was cut to
around 200,000 customers in the North island on Tuesday after a
connection issue at the Huntly power station.
The spokeswoman said the faults were not related.
The Huntly fault has been identified, but investigations to the cause were continuing.
