Ice cream company Tip Top is recalling some of its products because they may contain pieces of metal.

Tip Top managing director Alastair de Raadt said a maintenance check revealed abnormal wear on one of their ice cream churns, which could have resulted in metal breaking off into the ice cream.

He said while it was only a precautionary measure, people who had bought the products should not consume them, and could return them for a full refund.

The products were:

* Weight Watchers Double Chocolate Ice Cream Sundae Cup (125ml twin pack) with the date code best before 23/07/11;

* Weight Watchers Toffee Pecan Ice Cream Sundae Cup (125ml twin pack) with the date code best before 30/07/11;

* Weight Watchers Berry Mudslide Ice Cream Cup (145ml twin pack) with the date code best before 24/07/11; and

* Moritz Dolce Vita Ice Cream Cup, single serve and 4 x 145ml multi pack, with the date code best before 27/07/11.
