Six of the top 20 seeds in both the men’s and women’s draw have been ousted in the early rounds of the US Open.

But Roger Federer is not one of them – the second seed admits he is doing it easy so far at Flushing Meadows.

Federer has a 40-0 record in second round matches at Grand Slams – and even the commentators are running out of superlatives.

The second seed was broken just once in his match with Germany's Andreas Beck – Federer cruising in straight sets.

Powerful Croatian Marin Cilic's day didn't go so smoothly – spending nearly five hours in the sweltering New York heat against young gun Kei Nishikori.

The 11th seed faded in the fifth and final set to go down to the Japanese qualifier.

Spending too long in the sun wasn't a problem for women’s top seed Caroline Wozniaki – a 6-0 6-0 demolition of Kai Chen Chang inside 47 minutes meant the Danish star cruised through to the third round.

But there was still room for the underdog in the form of 18-year-old American Beatrice Capra; ranked 371 in the world the teen shocked 18th seed Aravane Rezai in three sets.

Capra will now meet Maria Sharapova in the third round after the Russian overwhelmed Eveta Benasova in straight sets.

There were thrills and spills in the night session – German Philipp Petzschner's slip not quite as painful as Novak Djokovic's predicament.

The Serbian third seed produced the big moments when needed to claim a hard-fought straight sets win.

He will meet James Blake for a place in fourth round.
