The Silver Ferns are looking across the Tasman for an answer to their midcourt woes.
Former NSW Swifts midcourter Courtney Tairi, who has signed to ply her trade with the Southern Steel in this year’s ANZ Championship, joined the Silver Ferns in camp this week.
Tairi was with the Ferns on coach Waimarama Taumaunu’s invite, and is being lined up to fill a gap in the team’s midcourt.
Tairi is eligible to play for both New Zealand and Australia. She was born in Sydney, but is of Maori descent.
She has been coy over her international aspirations, but her appearance at this week’s camp can be taken as a positive sign.
Tairi says she’s excited to be mixing it with New Zealand’s top netballers, but remains undecided on whether she will commit to the side.
"To be honest I still haven't really thought about it, my focus at the moment is just having a good preseason and trying to cement my place in the starting seven for the Steel," she told the New Zealand Herald.
She won’t have to confirm her availability for selection until half-way through the ANZ Championship.
