The doco Fighting Fear is from the same film maker behind the Aussie box office hit Bra Boys and makes a very assured companion piece.
Two of the infamous Bra Boys are profiled more intimately here, Richie Vas and Mark Mathews, childhood mates and hardcore surfers and partiers.
They both surf and fight themselves off the rails, and this is that story, and of how their friendship was the most important thing in their lives.
Along with the very cool big wave surfing footage here, Fighting Fear is a quietly inspirational watch, and will come with a lot of resonance for kiwi blokes I suspect.
Well worth a watch, especially on the big screen.
