There is a luxury Fijian villa which is the cause of so many people's anguish. It has four double bedrooms, a pool and outside bar, and its own floating jetty.
So many New Zealanders were booked there. So many had holidays of a lifetime planned.
First there was Julie Pinny who wanted to celebrate her 50th birthday in the sun. Then there was Josh Harris, his family, and their friends.
The Moodie family. The Bain family. The Ross wedding party of 25. The Wallace wedding party and many, many more.
All paid their deposits for their stay, collectively totalling more than $40,000, to an account held by Anita Cranston Investments.
But more than 100 people had their special plans dashed when they discovered their bookings were meaningless and their deposits gone.
Cathy Marama was hired by Anita Cranston and Craig Mudgway two years ago to clean the house, but she's been out of work since May 23.
“[Anita] rang and said guests would arrive, then Tuesday [afternoon] security came and said ‘Cathy you have to leave house in 10 minutes’. I was in shock. I said why, and he told me Craig is not the legal owner of the house, and the house is still under mortgage. So I packed my bag and go,” Mrs Marama says.
This was the day the first cracks became apparent in the Cranston-Mudgway holiday scheme.
Mr Mudgway purchased the home in 2007 from Stan van der Kroeff. He asked Mr van der Kroeff for a private short-term mortgage but failed to make the repayments.
The home was seized by the Fijian high court and then given back to Mr van der Kroeff. He sold it last Thursday to Australian businessman Brendan Hannan for $1.8 million.
In a further twist, we discovered Mr Hannan tried to buy the house from Mr Mudgway last year.
“He ripped me off for $90,000 so I'm not happy with him. He tried to sell me the home which never came through. I released half the deposit - was buying for $1.8 million - gave him $180,000 and he's run away with my $90,000,” Mr Hannan said.
So despite no longer owning the house, Mrs Cranston and Mr Mudgway continued taking bookings. Visitors were often double, triple and even quadruple booked.
To make matters worse, Fiji law prevents owners from renting out these types of private holiday homes.
Even now the deceit continues. While Mrs Marama was showing us around the house on Saturday with the permission of the new owner, the couple rang.
They claimed they’d get the house back, and would continue to support Mrs Marama while they did.
She remains loyal to the couple despite her job being on hold and past difficulties with Mr Cranston’s father.
“Last year when Craig’s father was there - when I was working here - he said ‘there's a problem I’m just going to pay you $6 a day’. I can’t live with that, so I walked out,” she said.
Sources tell Campbell Live when Anita Cranston and Craig Mudway are in Fiji they usually stay either at the Westin or Sheraton hotels. Both are close to the Denarau villa they used to own.
Campbell Live went to both hotels, but the pair were nowhere to be seen.
While the couple are hard to find in the flesh, there's no shortage of electronic communication. The couple continue to tell their victims everything will be alright.
Over the weekend they sent emails to all the victims, saying the house would soon be back in their possession and they'd all get a refund.
At the same time Mr Mudgway has been trying to secure a release of funds from his former wife, which he says is to pay back those whose holidays have been ruined.
The couple also rang their former staff in Fiji to once again say they still owned the house.
Campbell Live will continue to follow this story.
