Two suspicious fires at the Foxton Racecourse over the weekend have sparked fears of a firebug on the loose.
The Fire Service arrived about 11pm on Saturday night to find a 50 metre-long horse stable ablaze.
Firefighters were able to evacuate the animals, before putting the blaze out, a fire service spokesman told NZ Newswire.
It was the second fire at the racecourse in 24 hours, after another damaged a wooden grandstand on Friday night.
The fires were being treated as suspicious.
Fire safety officers visited the racecourse on Sunday, and would establish whether the fires were the work of an arsonist.
