Police Minister Anne Tolley has pressed the button, crushing the first car under the 'boy racer' law.
Ms Tolley says the vehicle belongs to a young man who's hit the limit of three convictions for illegal street racing.
She believes the crushing, the first under boy racer laws, will send a clear message to the 116 young people sitting on their second strike.
"They will get caught, they will lose their cars and we will crush them."
Justice Minister Judith Collins put the law through Parliament in 2008 when she was Police Minister, earning the nickname 'Crusher'.
She says Ms Tolley will soon be busy with the crusher.
Ms Tolley says since the boy racer laws were introduced offences have reduced by 17 percent.
A scrap metal dealer in Lower Hutt carried out the penalty.
