Five hurt in boating accident

Five people, including a child under five, have been taken to hospital after two boats collided in an Otago lake.

The boats crashed on Lake Middleton, near Lake Ohau, about 2pm Monday.

The five people have moderate to serious injuries, St John says.

A boy under five has a head injury, a woman in her 40s a suspected broken arm, a teenage girl an injured knee, a teenage boy head and possible back injuries, and a man in his 60s a suspected broken leg.

Two patients were transported to Timaru hospital by rescue helicopter and three by road.
