A police investigation is under way

A five-year-old girl is in Waikato Hospital after being brutally attacked in her bed in a holiday park in Turangi.

Police believe the attack was sexually motivated.

She was asleep in a caravan when the attack happened, her parents just metres away in an amenity block.

The family is in New Zealand on holiday from Europe.
