A flower enthusiast in the UK has transformed his backyard into a floral phenomenon; Ken Stock has grown more than 1,000 dahlias in an array of different colours.

It was a labour of love for the retired painter and decorator – now 78 – Mr Stock has more than 600 varieties of dahlias; most of which he had bred himself, The Express reported.

Many of the stunning blossoms are named after his family; there is the Sweet Irene and My Irene for his wife, First Born for his daughter Pamela and My Sweet Lorraine for his second daughter.

There is also Amy – after his great-granddaughter who is six.

Mr Stock spends four hours a day dead-heading to encourage new blooms before winter sets in again.

“You cannot get a better show flower than the dahlia. They are simply beautiful,” he says.

Visitors the garden in Bournemouth are charged £1 which goes to Help the Heroes charity.
