Fly My Pretties are back - with a few new additions

Known for their larger-than-life performances, Fly My Pretties are back – with a twist.

For music lovers there is plenty of that, but if you’re an art fan, they’ve got that covered too.

In fact, there is even a fashion element.

Fly My Pretties are back with extra musicians on board and an artist of a different kind.

“She’s an accomplished artist and when I saw her stuff online I was like, ‘yeah! That could really world’. Obviously the name works as well so that was a bit of a sign,” says lead musician Barnaby Weir.

Her name is Flox and for this year’s Fly My Pretties New Zealand tour she has created images for each song.

There are seven new faces in the 16-strong lineup and the quantity and quality of the musicians has made rehearsals a bit daunting.

“It poses internal terror,” says musician Eva Prowse. “There is all these amazing musicians sitting around you and you have to go, ‘Oh hi guys, here is my song I wrote, by myself in my room with my guitar. Do you mind playing on it?’ That’s the terrifying bit.”

But at least they’ll look cool, calm and collected with their own designer outfits by Cybele.

It has been a year in the making, but this week, getting the tour ready for Saturday’s opening night has meant long hours – not that there is any sign of fatigue.

For those unsure what to expect, Weir has summed up the tour:

“The music is original and purpose-built and I’d say the collaboration is a true collaboration of different artists coming together – both male and female.”
