Dave Grohl is often referred to as one of the nicest men in rock and roll.
Backing that up, he's playing a show in Auckland tonight with the Foo Fighters with all proceeds going to Christchurch.
Grohl and the Foo Fighters are also about to release a new record.
“Its great to take so much time off and still make a record we are all excited about and to have a year ahead of touring,” says Chris Shiflett. “It’s exciting to us and people didn’t seem to have forgotten about us.”
The idea of people forgetting about the Foo Fighters seems absurd, but then two of the band members know how quickly things can change.
“Coming from a band where everything was yankd away in one second, you feel like, ‘oh my god its all so temporary’,” Shiflett says. “When Nirvana first came popular my dad said, ‘you don’t think it’s going to last do you?’ And I still feel that way.”
Dave Grohl says that's why they have named the new Foos' record Wasting Light because he feels he doesn't want to waste any time.
And they certainly didn't tonight, playing to around 2,000 people at a fundraiser gig for Christchurch.
They are happy with the new album – which features Butch Vig by the way – the man who produced Nirvana’s Nevermind.
