Food, Glorious Food!

Tue, 14 Jul 2009 12:00a.m.

I definitely do care what it looks like!

This week I've officially been given the hurry up about getting the food sorted for the wedding (thanks Mum and Dad).

Fortunately, family friends own Spitfire Catering so choosing a caterer was a no-brainer.

Choosing the menu is the interesting part!

It has always been important to us that we get the food just right for the wedding.  FH wants 'real' food; no poncy little meal served on a giant white plate thank you!

And while we enjoyed a lovely set menu at a wedding last year, we wanted to give our guests a bit more choice to line their stomachs with.  Buffet it is!

But there's still a whole lot of deciding to do.  Do we go for traditional beef and chicken options?  Or branch out into the ham, pork or lamb fields and risk not keeping the diehard carnivores happy.

What about vegetarian options, do we even know any vegetarians!?  And I truly hope none of our friends or family have any life-threatening allergies we're currently unaware of!  Now would be a good time to drop me an email if you do...

And the worst thing about googling dinner menus every lunch hour is that I'm always starving by the end of it – and this does not help my pre-wedding get into shape plans!

I've got some yummy ideas together, so I need to sound them out with FH and make sure they pass the 'man test', then make some time to meet with the caterers to ensure my ideas are even possible.

Once we've decided on the menu, we'll need to sort out the alcohol.
Seeing as our venue is BYO, we have a few options – but having options means having to do the legwork!

Did I mention that I'm starting to feel the time pressures just a wee bit now!  I've got lots of things ticking away in the background, so I'm just trying to focus on one thing a week for the sake of sanity!

I can definitely see why some brides become bridezillas!

Bargain Bride - Wendy B

I'm a 24 year old Wellingtonian preparing to marry my partner in crime on 30 Jan 2010.  In 2008 we got engaged, bought our first house and had our first child.  Instead of having 2009 off to recover, we're throwing ourselves head-first into wedding planning!  Did I mention we're trying to do it all for under 10K!?
