I'm surprised at the at the unreasoned support for Sea Shepherd and Pete. The assumption that the Japanese are whaling illegally is wrong. They have signed a convention which allows a 'loophole' so their actions may be hard to justify but they are legal within that convention. SS's activities in harassing the whalers is illegal in both a Maritime law sense and also in the universal understanding of not putting others in danger in an extreme environment. Protest is one thing but throwing glass bottles at people and endangering one's own vessel and others in the Antarctic is violent and stupid. Not that Watson never puts himself on the line, he leaves that to the psychos like Pete. Also it is amazing that there are so many uninformed 'experts' who state that the Shonan Maru II deliberately rammed the Ady Gil. Go get two similar boats and try it. Set it up like it was and go for it. The Japanese boat simply couldn't react quickly enough to suddenly veer into the plastic boat. The Gil suddenly accelerated into the path of the Japanese boat. Yes, watch the videos with your eyes open and a bit of boat handling knowledge. Whoever was at the helm of the Ady Gil put the throttle down a few seconds before the Maru passed by. 3 seconds later and it wouldn't have happened. Oh, and by the way, that was what the Gil was doing all morning, just this time it went wrong for them. The other inescapable fact is that the collision did NOT sink the Gil. Paul Watson did that later in the night, quite deliberately or, less likely, by poor seamanship. Check this out you who think the Japanese ship sank the Ady Gil. It was Watson. If you support violence and dishonesty to stop whaling, then you fit neatly into the SS mentality. Other think that whaling will stop with more reasoned and mature methods. Others may just like the taste of whale meat. Your choice!

I keep reading that killing whales is banned. Why do the Japanese get away with it. Pete Bethune is a hero. The Japanese clearly ran into his vessel and they get away with it. Pete Bethune gets treated like he committed worse than murder in Japan. If it had been the other way around the Japanese would have been released and probably given a new boat. We never stick up for our people. NEVER!!! Whales ARE INNOCENT. This has got to stop. This is serious. If the Japanese continue to kill them, then they get what they deserve. And if I had money I would give it to Pete Bethune for a new AudyGil. I'm sorry about that. Good luck to you and your family. If I did not live in the US I would have greeted you home.
