Police searching for a missing teenager in Christchurch have today conducted a forensic examination at a residential address.

Hayden Miles, 16, was last seen in the Linwood area on Monday, August 22.

Detective Senior Sergeant Tony Hill says interest in the Cashell St property has been heightened by forensic work and other information gathered during the enquiry to date.

"Our enquiries so far indicate that some sort of incident has occurred at this address and we are now focusing on this location to get a better picture of what has happened here,” Mr Hill said.

"We're not in a position to speculate about what has happened, and this enquiry is still very much a missing person investigation as Hayden has not been located.

Police forensic staff and ESR examiners are likely to be at the site for at least three days. People living at the address, who are not known to Hayden, have been cooperating with police.

Last week Hayden’s mother Jacqui pleaded for anyone to come forward with information on his whereabouts.

Ms Miles, says the whole family is "worried sick" about Hayden, and that it is unusual for him not to have been in contact with anyone.

She says the family simply want to know he is safe and well and she urges that he, or anyone knowing where he is, make contact with family or police so they can be assured he is safe.

Hayden is described as Caucasian of thin build, 170cm tall, with dark hair and was last seen wearing a black jacket and blue jeans.

Christchurch Police say concerns are held for Hayden's safety as he has a history of depression and has not been in contact with family or friends for a long period.
