Three children and their teenage driver have been taken to hospital this afternoon after crashing into a power pole near Porirua.
Police say it appears the 18-year-old male driver over-corrected after going around a corner on Bedford Rd, in the suburb of Cannons Creek, and hit the pole.
In the car were two girls and one boy aged between 5-10 and they have been taken to Wellington Hospital.
Area Commander Inspector John Price says one of the occupants was initially in a serious condition and three in a moderate condition but now one is moderate and three are stable.
He says speed was a likely factor in the crash.
The Westpac Rescue helicopter came to the scene and took one person to hospital. The remaining three were taken in an ambulance.
Mongrel Mob member Newtown Moki was one of the first at the scene and helped pull the children from the wreck and put them in the recovery position.
He says he heard the crash and it was a really loud bang.
The accident occurred just after 3 o’clock
