Black Caps all-rounder Jacob Oram has been left out of the one day series squad to play South Africa starting on Saturday.
Tom Laham and bowler Dean Brownlie are also missing from the side that swept aside Zimbabwe.
Oram wasn’t considered for selection after aggravating a left calf injury in the final ODI against Zimbabwe. He’s expected to undergo scans on the injury later today.
Andy McKay, James Franklin, and Jesse Ryder are back, with chief selection Kim Littlejohn praising Franklin’s Twenty20 form.
“James has been in good touch during the current Twenty20 series while Jesse has been shown that he is ready for a return to top level cricket.
“Andy McKay bolsters the bowling attack and deserves his spot after putting in consistent performances across the summer,” Littlejohn says.
Tom Latham’s form has seen him sent back to domestic cricket to work on his game.
“We are pleased with his first stint at international level but in terms of his overall development felt it was best for him to return to domestic cricket,” Littlejohn says.
The Black Caps squad will assemble in Wellington on Thursday ahead of the series opener at Westpac Stadium on Saturday.
