A 52-year-old man has appeared in the Porirua District Court this morning charged with forging an email given as evidence at an inquest into a plane crash.

Nearly four years ago, a helicopter carrying a flight instructor and a student collided with a Cessna plane with another student on board.

All three were killed.

It is alleged the 52-year-old forged an email presented at the inquest as evidence after the man whose name was on it denied sending the email.

The accused faces three fraud charges and has been granted interim name suppression.
