And the classic meat pie has been knocked off its perch.
This year, a spiced plum, port and apple pie won the title at the New Zealand Supreme Pie Awards ceremony in Auckland.
It's the creation of Shane Kearns of Viands Bakery in Kihikihi near Te Awamutu, the first time in the award's 15-year history a gourmet fruit pie has been victorious.
