Quentin Tarantino

By Kate Rodger

Quentin Tarantino is heralded by many critics as one of the greatest filmmakers of the last 20 years.

He has won a multitude of awards including Oscars, Golden Globes, BAFTAs, a Palme d'Or and Pulp Fiction is ranked the 5th best film of all time on IMDb.com.

His latest movie, Inglourious Basterds, is a World War II romp about a group of specialist American soldiers who terrorise Nazis in occupied France.

Kate Rodger travelled to Melbourne to talk to Tarantino about Inglourious Basterds, a movie he calls his 'Mt. Everest', and why it was the movie that almost didn't get made.

If we're going to get picky it's Jackie Brown. Not Jack Brown.

Tarantino never made Usual Suspects. That was Brian Singer, the director of X-men 1&2, Superman Returns and Valkrie. Tarantino made Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction and jack Brown before Kill Bill Glad to see you appreciate the man as much as I do

It is good to see a mature woman like Kate who can be a bit of a shrew who refuses to be tamed, tickled or rendered starstruck by A list celebrities like Tarantino who after the Usual Suspects really went wild on Kill Bill. And with pneumatic Uma, mermaid Daryl, Kung Fu Carradine and an even better comic sequal to the first millium flick he made us think and blink!
When I watch these videos I see an original creative genius at work who has virtually created a new art form, and a unique critique and startling perspective on reality; What we see like Keyser the spaced out Shaker is not what is behind the mask. We are exposed to the Globe in all its enigmatic yet naked glory. I wish I could meet the Great person for a meal, and I would ask pert questions like Ms. Rodger!
That said although the new leading lady is great, and Brad Pitt okay if you like that kind of smart buttoned up guy who used to date Rachel before she matured and wised up, I do not like this Hitler much from the clips; He is too madly comic; he was a much nastier more evil, mystical and charismic than that I feel. A great coup and scoop for Campbell Live!3 Cheers and a bottle of bubbly!
