The thing that gets me is now there is a perception that gaming is anti social and only for uber nerds and kids. Gaming is an escape just like reading, watching tv or going to the pub after work.

I may read more hours on a weekly basis than I do sitting in front of the television with a controller in my hand, though apparently that doesn't matter to society.
