A volunteer holds an umbrella in a rain storm at the London 2012 Olympic Games (Reuters)

As the crowds come and go at the Olympics, they're being directed by 70,000 volunteers known as 'The Games Makers'.

They've been one of the success stories of the games so far, cheerfully welcoming visitors to venues around Britain.

So can Britain now build on this huge enthusiastic base of volunteers once the Games are over?
