'Gangnam Style' passes 200 million

3News NZ

Korean pop sensation Psy has become a worldwide phenomenon thanks to 200 million views of his energetic new dance anthem 'Gangnam Style' on YouTube.

The track has sparked a worldwide dance craze and landed galloping Psy, real name Park Jae-sang, a handful of high-profile TV spots in the US - including a comedy skit on Saturday Night Live, which aired at the weekend.

Psy even appeared on comedienne Ellen DeGeneres' daily chat show last week to give Britney Spears some dance lessons.

Meanwhile, his song has become the most downloaded track on iTunes.

‘Gangnam Style’ refers to the upscale Gangnam District in Seoul, Korea.

This became a worldwide phenomenon thanks to the power of the worldwide media, not 200 million views. That came after the media took it on board.
