Joanne and Gareth Morgan

Joanne and Gareth Morgan

If you follow economic matters then Gareth Morgan will be a familiar face. He is one of New Zealand’s most respected economists, and father of Trade Me founder Sam Morgan.

But what you may not know about Gareth and his wife Joanne is their commitment to humanitarian work - a commitment that almost had tragic consequences 10 days ago, on a trip to the Solomon Islands, when Gareth got a crocodile bone lodged in his throat.

UNICEF donations of $750,000 have been used in this area in the last four years, most of the money was spent after the events of a devastating earthquake and tsunami in 2007.

Gareth and Joanne spoke to Sunrise’s Carly Flynn, who was on the trip with them.
