The New Zealand Defence Force will soon be one of the few in the world to offer a formal support network for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender personnel.

The Defence Force Gay and Lesbian Information Service is a significant step forward for LGBT support in the force, says the Royal New Zealand Air Force's Flight Lieutenant Stuart Pearce.

The peer-support networking group to support LGBT personnel has been approved by the defence force chief.

The network will allow meetings during work time, resources to publish newsletters, maintain a resource page on the internal NZDF intranet and conduct meetings using video telephone conferencing equipment.

The decision also includes the establishment of networking groups for other minority groups within the NZDF.

The NZDF lifted its ban on openly gay personnel in 1993 after the passing of the Human Rights Act, which prevents discrimination on grounds such as ethnicity, gender and sexual orientation.

Is there a support network available for non gay personel to have meetings etc. No way am i going for a shower with the poofters. Look, along time ago we had a few gays in our Battalion but we all knew who they were, mostly they had admin jobs but they knew their place and we knew ours and there were no problems. Now it seems, its a major issue, whats happening to,'This Mans Army'. Godbless New Zealand.

And this happens with a supposed right wing government!
Whatever next as we break down barriers decade by decade? It'll one day be paedophiles have rights to study as infant teachers. The world's going mad with this political correctness that has no bounds. Whatever happened to good old 'Common Sense'?

n appallingly retrogade step riddled with deception. It has the potential to be deeply divisive, and therefore to undermine military discipline. The leftist, ideological nature of homosexual political activism is the very antithesis of the Godly belief system underpinning the Services tradition of loyalty to God, Queen and country.
