The many and varied cinematic endeavours of British director Michael Winterbottom have always engaged me, making Genova even more of a disappointment.

It’s the story of a university professor (Colin Firth) who moves to the Italian city of Genova with his two daughters after the death of their mother.

They each deal with their grief very differently, as they try to adapt to their new homeland.

While the story in itself doesn’t lack drama or emotion, its delivery certainly does.

Dull, and wholly undernourishing.

Two Stars.
