Girls' violence is increasing

Girls' violence is increasing

By Mihingarangi Forbes

School kids in Rotorua are sharing around a girl’s bashing filmed on cell-phone. The fight  has made its way around Rotorua high-schools.

It's believed it was also posted on social networking sites.

It’s not the first time - last month abusive messages were left on Facebook and YouTube about Hawke's Bay school kids, and last year another girl-on-girl fight from Auckland's James Cook High was posted online.

What's got into our girls? It's not a common sight, a prolonged attack by a group of girls on a single 15-year-old.

For added humiliation the assault is filmed on a cell-phone and forwarded on to other kids.

Dr Donna Swift is head researcher of the Girls Project. She's trying to find out why some of our girls are choosing their fists over their tongues.

This fight, like many others wasn't reported to the school or the police. When we approached Western Heights High School in Rotorua, the principal said she had no knowledge of it at all, so the chances of the perpetrators being dealt with are once again slim.

Both Dr Swift and the police agree girls fight over boys and for their attention.

C'mon, of course the perps can be easily identified! They are on film &, even tho' their faces are blurred on this online video, surely they can be recognised by their clothing & some of the voices. How hard is that for the school authorities, various parents, other students? In addition to which, the victim's name is, apparently, Misty. I imagine when she arrived home her folks could tell she had been assaulted. Didn't they follow up on it? How many clues does it take to catch crims in this country? And that's what these vicious little skanks are... criminals.

NZ society is failing - totally failing. I can't wait for it to completely, utterly fail so that we can FINALLY start to backtrack all of the liberal nonsense that is causing the problem in the first place.

Outlet, outlet, outlet!!!! There is only so much the current system can do to stop violence when they're not sweeping it under the carpet or hiding it in the closet. Sometimes it may result in fist fights which is perfectly normal.

There is a programme called 'Konfident Kidz Mana Tamariki' written by a couple of Kiwis for Kiwi Kids. My Son has been through the 10 week programme at his school, the results were outstanding. He said he thoroughly enjoyed it along with his clasmates, generally felt more confident, and able to use his words to deal with bullies. I would recommend this programme to all schools, as it teaches children life skills. i dont think their website is up and running yet. But you can email them and get somemore info. Google them!!
'Konfident Kidz' it's awesome!!

Where are the days when we raised our girls to be ladies and not act like animals. What do they see in the world.

I agree with Kim. We are not doing young people any favours by letting them do as they wish with no consequences. Teenagers are able to do whatever they like, regardless of their ability to make good decisions. The choices they make now and the things that they do now, will immpact on their futures. Heaven forbid these will be our future leaders. This country is so full of PC crap. Teachers, parents, gaurdians and law enforcement need to get some power back. I also agree that these girl's faces should not be covered up. They played part in the distribution and made their actions public. Stop protecting these little criminals.

Teenage girls in this country are out of control with no one - (the law, CYFS, parents included), able to hold them accountable for their actions. These KIDS get away with unspeakable acts of violence and disrespect with no consequences. The girl in the video, could very well be my own daughter, who was NOT raised with violence and has a loving family who are absolutely at wits end after getting no help from any of the powers that should be able to help. We have been begging the police, CYFS, the courts for help but no one has any power with minors. I believe there should be greater consequences for these little monsters.... Bring back compulsory miliatary training or borstal I say!!!
