Prepare for the most glamorous week of the year.
Fashion Week is upon us and the glitterati have celebrated at the official launch this evening.
Fashion Week’s launch party kicked off the only way it knew how – with a drag queen on wheels – and the night got going after that.
Attendees weren't limited to the who's-who of fashion. Rower Eric Murray was there, sporting this year's ultimate accessory – his Olympic medal.
He says it’s a fashion accessory you can only get “with a lot of hard work, sweat and tears, maybe a bit of blood”.
“Just a good old Kiwi attitude will get you a nice little accessory like that,” says Murray.
Actually, looking around, we spotted quite a few others with the same medal.
“Everyone wearing the same thing, it’s not that good,” says Olympic gold medallist Mahe Drysdale. “I think you can get away with it if you’re a guy. It might be more uncomfortable for the girls.”
He wasn't wrong there – we saw a few of the ladies wearing the same dress.
But some partygoers were truly one of a kind.
“I wash my hair, blow dry it, and then curl it,” says fashion blogger Mino Kim. “Hairspray it. That’s how I do it. [It takes] half an hour!”
“I love [brand] New Jeans, Overland shoes and my own jewellery,” says jewellery designer Nick Von K.
Others even chose to come dressed camouflaged into the wall.
Fashion guru Colin Mathura-Jefferee says to expect big this year.
“We have so much going for ourselves,” says Mathura-Jefferee. “Geographically we are the most isolated country on the planet but we have a wonderful sense of fashion.”
It’s fashion that will be on the catwalk as of tomorrow.
