Labour leader Phil Goff says anyone who suggests he's facing a leadership challenge is flogging a dead horse.

The party's caucus is meeting for the first time since reports were leaked that Mr Goff offered to step down at a front bench meeting.

It's also the party's first caucus meeting since MP Clare Curran was forced to apologise after writing a blog suggesting that the Greens were encroaching onto Labour territory.

Mr Goff says he's not stepping down.

"I don't go on rumour of what somebody has said to who," says Mr Goff. "If people have the courage of their convictions to speak out publicly, I'll comment on it."

Mr Goff says the last person to break the caucus confidentially rule was Chris Carter, and he was immediately expelled.

In a poll today, Labour rated only 31.5 percent, well behind National on 52 percent.

Labour Mps fail to grasp Goff has zero sex appeal. The attraction is about the level of cold hoki. Goff is an establishment man who has always done the right thing. There is absolutely nothing exciting about him. He's half patrician and half prole an impossible combination. Most distasteful has been Goff's consistent grovelling to the feminists and the foreign policy department. This guy will never rock the boat. Like with Grosser NZ will never punch above up its weight with this kill joy who is pure Mt Roskill. Basically Goff is living proof that class mobility should not be encouraged. Its been such a total compromise the get to the top that theirs nothing their except a parody of working class anger and ignorance. Give the scholarships in future to poor anglican parsons and teachers sons. Not the likes of phil and his brother.

Obviously Phil will stay through the next election.
Rather than hear the media bleat on about "will he stay or go", which is a non-issue, I'd rather hear what the Labour policies are in opposition to the National party's policies.
Any chance of that, or are we not allowed to hear them?
Let's get away from political reportage of the sort that markets only one brand (National). NZers are suffering under their watch, except the rich ones... like the ones who own the mainstream media. Credibility, anyone? No? Oh well.
