Drew Barrymore (E.T/Donnie Darko) and Justin Long (Diehard 4/He's Just Not that Into You) has been on-again/off-again boyfriend/girlfriend off-screen for a few years now, but right now they’re on-again, and on a screen near you.

They play a couple who meets over a video-game high score and hook up for a sweet 6 week romance before Drew’s character Erin moves back to San Francisco.

The couple decides to do the long distance thing, and the pitfalls and challenges of that form the backbone of this romantic comedy.

I have a well-documented aversion to rom-coms, there are so few good ones.

And while Going the Distance is far from perfect, there are some good belly-laughs, and enough bloke-humour to maybe even get the boyfriend along.

Three and a half stars.
