The New Zealander shoved through the plate glass window of a Perth pub had talked to his parents just hours before his death, and his father had urged him to take care of himself.

But the advice came to nothing – 29-year-old Andrew Marshall was set upon and pushed to his death, a fall of 8m.

Mr Marshall's been described as the least deserving person to bear the brunt of such a senseless act of aggression and violence. He was attacked from behind and shoved through a plate glass window at a popular Perth bar.

"I heard some sort of noise, and as I turned around to look he came straight through the window and literally landed on his head," said one witness.

Mr Marshall died seven hours later in hospital.

"He was an infectious person to be around," says his gather Alan Marshall. "Great laugh and fantastic sense of humour, and I think that's what surprised everyone about what's happened – he's just such a good-natured boy. How could that happen?"

It's the second time in 10 months tragedy has struck the family.  Mr Marshall was a first cousin of murdered Feiliding farmer Scott Guy. They grew up together in Feilding. He was an usher at Mr Guy's funeral last year.

A 25-year-old man with links to a motorcycle gang has been arrested and charged with murder.

Both families are devastated.

Mr Marshall moved from Christchurch to Perth two-and-half years ago and had been working as a roofer. Friends say he was thinking of coming back to Christchurch to help rebuild it.

His funeral is likely to be next week.
