The Kiwi classic Goodbye Pork Pie was brought to life yesterday with a re-enactment of the journey south that even Blondini would be proud of.

Thirty seven Minis took part in the trip from Kaitaia to Bluff to raise money for the Starship Foundation.

The trip became a little too like the movie when one Mini broke down and drove through an Invercargill restaurant.

The Westies' yellow Mini was just in the convoy that trekked 2500km.

After a setting off with the rest of the minis from Kaitaia, they cruised down the South Islands West Coast. But, by the time they reached central Otago, their Pork Pie was cooked.

"I think blowing the engine was the most heart wrenching thing that took the cake - no motor and stuck in Middlemarch which has the least amount of women in NZ I'm told!" says Westie Brett Ireland.

The Westies fitted a new engine in Dunedin before getting back on the road to join the others for their final stop.

The event raised more than $120,000 for the Starship Foundation.

The Westies say the trip was a childhood dream come true, their Blondini moment a once in a lifetime adventure.
