Television New Zealand will remain in public ownership, the government says.

National's broadcasting policy, released on Friday, makes the point in an apparent attempt to shut down persistent claims from Labour that it is setting up the state broadcaster for sale.

It also says it will maintain funding for Radio New Zealand, manage a smooth transition to digital television by the end of 2013 and ensure quality local content by continuing to support NZ On Air.

The policy document mostly deals with what has already happened in broadcasting and boasts about how successful it has been.

Right given Nationals declared policy of closing National Radio and other policies designed to close off critical analysis of the governments policies.Vote Labour to retain an independent media and to ensure that this media is able to maintain a watchdog role on our behalf. Evidence of why this is necessary can be seen in the rort being agreed to by National and Act with respect to Epsom and the lengths Key is prepared to go to supress coverage of what was agreed to betwen himself and Banks.

labour has been making that claim for three years, never happened. really Aron, or are you just too stupid to understand what "will you raise GST to cover the deficit" John Key "no" actually means, and guess what Aron it wasn't raised to cover the labour deficit. Early Childhood education went from $400 million under labour to getting $1.2 billion under national, only a fool that supports labour wouldn't support that.

Well its really strange.. 3 years ago you lot jumped up and down claiming if National were voted in they would be selling assets like crazy. 3 years in power and assets sold : None. National announce their intention to partially sell some assets and go to the polls on that policy. Once again your jumping up and down about National selling assets like crazy...

If you have always voted National, please make an exception this time, and vote either Labour, or Green. Why? Because, you should remember your first loyalty must be to your country, not a political party. Once this asset sale goes ahead, and foreign countries hold profitable stacks of our national strategic assets, we, the native NZers will gradually lose our full control and say, over our politics, the direction of our economy etc. It has happened to other countries with major oil or mining industries, and we will be no exception. Keep our future independent, and the profit from our asset in New Zealand, for New Zealanders. Remember, Your first loyalty is to this land, not a political party.
