The Government estimates a new Taranaki gas supply deal will create 500 jobs.

It also believes Todd Energy's 10-year agreement with methanol manufacturer Methanex will pump $860 million into the national economy.

500 jobs is hardly a surge. It is a fraction of the jobs lost to NZer's by this government.
