Hair dye products including Grecian, Silvercheck, and 1000 Hour have been recalled for containing banned substances and failing to comply with standards.

Consumer NZ said the Grecian and Silvercheck products contained substances not permitted for sale in New Zealand, while the 1000 Hour eyelash and eyebrow kits failed to comply with cosmetic products group standards issued by the Environmental Risk Management Authority.

The affected products include Grecian 5 five-minute hair colour 30ml, Grecian 2000 cream with conditioner 60g, Grecian 2000 lotion with conditioner 125ml, Silvercheck hair cream 150ml, and 1000 Hour eyelash and eyebrow kits in natural black, dark brown, blue-black and brown-black.

People are advised to stop using the 1000 Hour kits and return them to Kmart stores, where they were sold from December 2005. The Grecian and Silvercheck products should be returned to their place of purchase for a full refund.

I admire efforts to make products safer, none more than Framesi and its director fabio Franchina. My concerns are that while in a retail shop selling hair color in Auckland I asked where there was any english instructions I was told they dont have english clients! NZ follows the EU standards as a lead
