Gucci are reportedly planning to launch a couture line.
According to industry sources, designer Frida Giannini - who was the Creative Director of the women's ready-to-wear range and now overlooks the menswear collection - hopes to step out of her predecessor Tom Ford's shadow and work on a new luxurious off-shoot for the world's rich and famous.
A source said: "If the brand extension does happen, Gucci couture isn't expected to show on the runway, but instead will be presented on an appointment-only basis."
Until this point, Frida's career has been seemingly overshadowed by her predecessor Tom.
She was initially employed under the fashion guru-turned-film director as an accessories designer.
After several of her handbags were greatly received, she became a creative director when Tom left the company.
Frida has always had a very hands-on approach to her work at Gucci, having opened a pop-up trainer store, designing a limited edition charity T-shirt and revealing her desire to launch a Gucci cosmetics line.
