A jury has found a Christchurch man guilty on 12 of the 14 child sexual abuse charges he faced, at the end of a seven-day trial in the Christchurch District Court today.

The man, who has interim name suppression, was remanded in custody for sentencing on March 16.

Evidence involved testimony from the three child complainants, relayed to the court room through CCTV.

“If it is any comfort to you I agree with your verdicts, having heard the case,” Judge Jane Farish said to the jury.

She requested a pre-sentence report and victim impact reports, prepared by a psychologist, on the three children.

The jury found the 37-year-old man not guilty on two charges which alleged he made the boy indecently touch the two girls.

Crown prosecutor Claire Boshier says the sexual abuse began when one of the girls was three and the other five, from 2001 to 2008. The boy was under eight.

The man was convicted on charges of touching one girl, sexually violating her with digital penetration, oral sex, and sexual intercourse. He was also convicted on charges of indecency with the second girl, and violation and indecency with the boy.

The man denied all charges. Although some charges had been dismissed during the trial, 14 remained when the jury retired to consider its verdicts at 11.15am this morning.

The verdicts were delivered at 5.50pm.
