A gyrocopter and a paraglider have crashed in separate incidents in Tauranga, leaving two people injured.

Fire Service northern communications shift manager Jaron Philips said a gyrocopter carrying two people crashed in Tauranga Harbour, between Mount Maunganui and Matakana Island, this afternoon.

The pair were rescued by nearby boaties and taken to shore.

One person was taken to hospital by ambulance but there was "nothing serious" about their condition, a St John Ambulance spokesman said.

In the second incident, a paraglider crashed through trees onto the road at Marine Parade near Mount Maunganui shortly before 5pm, police said.

Initial reports were that the pilot suffered moderate injuries, including an ankle injury.
