A huge final round effort from Auckland's Siositina Hakeai claimed her fourth place in the discus at the world junior championships and a new national age-group record.
Hakeai managed a throw of 56.17 metres on the final day of the championships in Barcelona on Sunday to shatter Beatrice Faumuina's record for 18-year-olds, set in 1993, by 97 centimetres.
Despite her national record, Hakeai, was still almost 4m short of bronze medallist, American Shelbi Vaughan. Germany's Anna Ruh won with a throw of 62.38m.
Auckland's Merewarihi Vaka also qualified for the final and finished 10th with a best throw of 48.48m.
