He's on a boat, he can smell the ocean, freedom is near

By Frances Cook

Happy Feet spent his first night on board NIWA’s ship Tangaroa last night as he starts the long journey to his drop-off point.

3 News reporter Charlotte Shipman was given permission to spend one night on the ship to see how Happy Feet was settling in to life at sea.

While Charlotte Shipman is now back on dry land, Happy Feet will spend another three days onboard before being released into the sea.

The penguin will slide down a tarpaulin-turned-waterslide on the ramp of the boat when he is released at 51 degrees south, near Campbell Island.
