Maori Party MP Hone Harawira will not be charged by police for failing to wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle.

Police received three complaints when Mr Harawira rode the bike on Parliament’s forecourt during an anti-violence demonstration.

The bike belonged to the demonstrators and Mr Harawira laughed off suggestions at the time that he was not wearing a helmet.

The police have decided not to proceed with the complaints.

Wellington City Area Commander Inspector Peter Cowan says, "After careful consideration of all issues, including public interest, the matter will not proceed any further."

Inspector Cowan says he has spoken to Mr Harawira regarding the incident.

I just wish this racist fool would disappear from the public eye. I understand that charging him would have not been worth another race relations fight because we all know that's what he and his lot would have turned it into. As always it makes a joke of the law and law abiding kiwis.

I once got done for disqualified driving for moving a car in my own driveway. (I never went on road and didnt go outside my gate) The judge went to great pains to tell me that the law was the law and he had to convict me.Did this guy break the law in a public place or didn't he?

Get rid of that idiot and then maybe the money the government saves can go to ACC. solves 2 problems with one action.
