Has Brazil's economy suffered in the downturn?

The world economic recession has had an impact even on the so-called BRIC countries - Brazil, Russia, India and China.

We hear a lot about China and India, but what about commodity-rich Brazil? Has it been thumped by a downturn in commodity prices?

Brazilian economist Carlos Eduardo de Freitas is currently in New Zealand. He is a former economist for Brazil's central bank, and joins Michael Wilson in the studio.
