A farmer's son from the village of Pettling in the Upper Bavaria region of Germany made use of materials found on the farm to make his proposal of marriage to his girlfriend a memorable one.
Twenty-seven year old Markus Schmidt formed 150 bales of hay into the words: "Will you marry me?"
The romantic giant proposal was a success, as Schmidt reported.
His girlfriend, 27-year-old Corinna Pesl, saw the 70m long message while looking out of the bedroom window, and she said: "Yes, of course."
Schmidt got the hay bales from his parents' farm - each one weighs 300kg and each letter is 3.50m high.
Schmidt said that his friends and his brother had already made spectacular marriage proposals, such as words being mowed into fields, and so he decided to try something himself.
Schmidt works at car maker Audi, and often helps at his parents' farm.
After four months of waiting for a chance to assemble the bales, an opportunity finally presented itself.
While his girlfriend was out at work in a bookshop, Schmidt and his younger brother worked for six hours to get the "hay proposal" finished.
Two tractor engines were used to complete the work.
The next morning, Schmidt got down on his knees and proposed in the usual way, before throwing open the shutter to reveal his creation.
The couple, who have been together for nine years, plan to have a civil marriage ceremony this autumn, and a church wedding next year.
