Health minister to speak in Washington

Monday 12 Nov 2012 8:35p.m.

Health minister to speak in Washington

Health Minister Tony Ryall leaves for Washington tomorrow to speak at an international symposium on healthcare policy.

Health ministers from Europe and North America will be there and Mr Ryall says a major theme is how different health systems are responding to tight financial conditions.

He will hold talks with US Secretary of Health Kathleen Sebelius while he is in Washington at the Commonwealth Fund's 2012 International Symposium on Health Care Policy.

Despite the Government's cost-cutting over the last four years, Mr Ryall has been able to secure modest increases in the health budget and has increased elective surgery rates.
