Concerncitizen I am going through best cancer at the time, what is this medicine?? Can you contact me PLEASE??

It's an embarrasment for human race to see such a STUPID attitude towards an important issue. Please don't listen to half of the non acurate information they give you here. There is plenty of quality information on ALL the cancer official sites.

Plus I'm a doctor!!! (Ignorance is bliss for those who aren't)

Chemo and radiotherapy do shorten your life span! Look up any research articles plus all the secondary cancers they cause as well.

I was diagnosed with brease cancer last year....29 years old and I'm just finishing my treatment at the time...it's been the worst experience I've had in my hole life BUT the best in many ways.....it changes you in so many ways....for the REAL BRAVE ones I wish you all my light and love... I KNOW what this is....

NOT convinced. Just another SAD pseudo celib trying to get her name and face (and whatever else she exposes) back infront of the camera. Makes me truly feel sad for genuine women who are going thru this. I am not convinced at all that she is doing this to hi-light the plight of other sufferers. Just go away

What an amazing story to put on T.V especially when it seems my year has also been consumed by the same disease.I was 28 when diagnosed in Jan with breast cancer, had a mastectomy in Feb, married in March and started chemo in April. Helena reminded me a lot of myself very confident and bubbly and showing New Zealand her story will show that you do not need to look sick to have cancer as a lot of people think.Exercise and a positive attitude as well as being open and sharing my story with others made support through this time so much easier.I have just had my reconstruction and am absolutely wrapped with what the surgeons can do! you can not even tell I have had a mastectomy! Helena there will be days when you want to scream at the world..So do it! but you are a beautiful girl and being bald will not be a problem with your attitude! Although a little cold during winter a lot of woman wished they could shave their heads just to know what it was like. My hair has now grown back to about a number 4 in 3 months, I still continue to have herceptin (govt you rock) and pills for years to come, but I do this with a smile on my face because I found the lump and I am alive! You rock Helena! you brought a smile to my face to see another young woman who is willing to share her story. John thank you for getting this to air. I look forward to seeing more of her story. Stay strong x

Hi John,
I just wanted to say thank you so much for covering such a wonderful topic!!! Breast cancer is something that you heard about as a woman, but never been able to see what or how it looks like or what to watch out for (such as signs on your breast etc) but i'm so grateful that Helena is so brave to share her story with us all!!
Once again, thank you so much!! & for you Helena, may God be with you whilst you go thru' this & stay strong.

Excellent story.... My thoughts are with you Helena. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2009, IDC. I am 36. Like Helena I have been very positive throughout treatments. My lump was 5.5 cm at diagnosis. I had chemo first, as my cancer was aggresive and they needed to stop it growing and try and shrink it. I lost my hair, but thankfully not my spirit. After chemo I had a masectomy and I opted to delay the reconstruction. I also had lymph nodes taken out. Cancer thankfully was only in 2. I then had further chemo. I am on a 4 week holiday. Start Radiation in December 2009 for 5 weeks. Whilst undergoing treatments I have managed to continue to work full time, and had minimal side effects from the chemo. I have remained positive throughout, it has definitely helped with getting thru treatments. It has been a hell of a year, but it hasn't stop me. I now appreciate life in a way I never thought before. I am not complacent anymore about changes in my body. I also educate many to get checked. As I always thought people over 45 got Breast Cancer. Now I am more aware of the young people who get it.
Helena I wish you all the best with your treatments, with the attitude you have you will get thru it.

Hi Helena, we don't realize the courage we hold within until something as terrifying as cancer invades us and all of a sudden brings all our hopes and dreams to a screaming halt so unexpectedly your positive attitude and strength you hold towards your unknown journey ahead bought a smile to my face as I just know with this mind set half of your battle is already won,as I watched you last night feelings came rolling back as 2 years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer also, you can beat this Helena!!!and with a brilliant surgeon like Stan Govender on your team you can rest assure you have one of the very best, thinking of you x

Hi Helena. I sat and watched you on Campbell Live last night and couldn't help but cry. Having no eyelashes doesn't help. lol! I am 26 years old and was diagnosed with breast cancer in April of this year. After having both breasts removed and then doing 6 months of chemo I totally understand what you are going through. I just wanted to let you know that its ok to have your off days. You are only human - you are totally allowed to feel why me? and this sucks!! For me I was great at putting on a brave face for everyone else but my mind was constantly ticking "what if". The thing that got me through chemo was positive thinking and trying to stay as normal as possible. If you want to have a drink then have a drink, if you want to go out, then go out!! There might always be someone way worse off than you but you shouldn't feel like your cancer is less important than someone else's. Cancer is cancer, and even though its a pretty crappy time for you right now once your through the other side it will all be totally worth it and you'll be a much stronger person for it. Stay strong, my thoughts and blessings are with you.

Hi,Helena,Congratulations for being so positive with your cancer. With a positive attitude and maintaining a sense of humour, through your tough journey, you will beat it against all odds.I have been there and done it.I came back from the dead and have been clear for nearly 7 years now.I was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer in the left tonsil and the back of the tongue. The specialists decided that to beat it,they recommended I have both chemo and radio therapy.I had both over a 7 week period.I lost 24kgs in that time.Don't recommend that to anyone.LOL.I earned a reputation that I was some of the other patients "best medicine".Remember the saying that "there is always someone worse off than you".I saw it with my own 2 eyes in Palmerston North where I had my treatment.I woke at 2.00am one morning and shouted out "I'm too bloody young to die".I was 53 at that time.I am 60 years of age now, working and back living life to the fullest.I was told my treatment was quite radical and that I had been a "guinea pig".I continue to talk about having had cancer as I feel people have a better understanding of this terrible disease as most think it is "curtains" even to hear the word."Good Luck" with your treatment. As tough as it may get, there is life after cancer and you will have the added bonus of saying, "I beat it".If you wish to contact me for a chat, feel free. You can contact me via e/mail.Regards,Graeme
