National MP Tau Henare has come under fire for his choice of profile picture on Twitter.

A Te Puni Kokiri official has told Henare he must change the picture he currently has on display - the Maori Battalion logo.

But Henare says the picture will stay.

“Would they tell somebody to not get a tattoo of the 28th battalion if they revered them so much?” he says.

“I think it’s stupid.”

Asked when he plans on getting a tattoo, Henare, who tweets under pseudonym ‘West Side Tory’, said: “Next week, when my boy comes home or I’ll get my nephew to do it,” he said.
